Kaithal Jal Shakti Abhiyan Central Nodal Officer Bhumika on Tuesday visited various villages and inspected the works done under the campaign. She exhorted the people to save water and conserve rainwater. “Every citizen should participate in the campaign, especially women,” she added.

She visited Habri village where she inspected two ponds built under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana. She then inspected the paddy field planted under the DSR technology at Teontha village and also interacted with the farmers. She called on the farmers to adopt the technique. Thereafter, the team visited the net house at Naina village and heritage site water flour mill at the Sirsa branch in Fatehpur village.

Verma said an awareness drive must be carried out by all departments concerned for sensitising people to save water and conserve rainwater. She laid emphasis on maximum recharging of water during the monsoon season. Verma called for concerted efforts by all departments to check the depleting groundwater.

On the occasion, she inaugurated the rainwater harvesting system constructed on the premises of the Irrigation Department office and also planted a sapling. She also interacted with “Bhujal Saheli” and encouraged them to work hard and spread awareness. Dr M Gobinath, Deputy Director, Jal Shakti Ministry, emphasised on crop diversification to save groundwater.

On the occasion, Superintendent Engineer of Public Health Department Mangat Ram Garg, Executive Engineer Prashant Grover, SDO Prince Saini, groundwater expert Shiv Kumar, Vikram Kumar and other officials concerned were present.
