Central varsity sets up medical microbiology laboratory

The Central University of Haryana (CUH) authorities here have established a state-of-the-art medical microbiology laboratory for advanced research on medically important microbes. The lab was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Tankeshwar Kumar on Tuesday.

“The specialised laboratory is designed to facilitate work on microbes of clinical relevance. The facility houses basic and advanced instruments, including a BSL-2 biological safety cabinet for handling pathogens and incubators to support the growth of anaerobic microbes. The facility also adheres to the guidelines of institutional biosafety committee under the department of biotechnology with all protocols and safety measures such as training of personal working with pathogens, safe disposal of waste and others,” said the VC.

Prof Vikas Beniwal, head, department of microbiology emphasised that the laboratory would foster interdisciplinary research within the university and enable collaboration with researchers from other disciplines.

“This milestone aligns with the university’s vision of advancing scientific excellence and fostering collaborative research to address pressing health challenges in the community,” he added.

Dr Puja Yadav, who is working on antimicrobial resistance in gram negative pathogens, maintained that the laboratory was specifically designed to enable advanced research on clinically significant microbes, fostering impactful scientific contributions.
