Chairperson conducts surprise check of Sirsa municipal office
Shanti Swaroop Valmiki, the newly appointed Chairperson of the Municipal Council, immediately shifted into action mode after assuming office. On the morning of his first day on Friday, he conducted a surprise inspection of the Municipal Council office. During the inspection, he found several employees absent without prior notice, leading to immediate disciplinary action. Four employees were issued Show-cause notices. Among those absent were JE Sheetal, clerk Anju, technician Jatin and office staff from the birth-death records, Sandeep.
Swaroop arrived at the office at 9:20 am and began the inspection. He discovered that nine employees were absent. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that five of the absent employees had applied for leave, but four employees had no explanation for their absence. As a result, the four employees were issued show-cause notices.
EO Atar Singh stated that if these employees failed to provide satisfactory responses, further action would be taken. He also mentioned that the council office had 14 employees, with five on field duty and five on leave. However, the remaining four employees had no clear explanation for their absence.
During the inspection, there were many visitors at the council office, especially at the birth-death records counter, where people were waiting in line to complete their paperwork. At that time, there were no staff members available to assist them.
Swaroop had previously advised all employees to work honestly and diligently. He also stated that daily inspections would be conducted and any negligence would lead to action. EO Atar Singh added that employees had been clearly instructed to arrive at the office by 9 am and failure to comply would result in consequences.
MC faces delays in development projects
The newly formed Municipal Council is facing delays in development projects. Shanti Swaroop, is focused on renovating the Chairman's office. The office renovation is causing delays as new electrical wiring, air conditioners and tiles are being installed, increasing costs.
The meeting hall is also under renovation with new furniture and fittings being added. As a result, the Chairman and council members are still working from the EO office, and residents are growing impatient, as many important projects remain stalled.
Additionally, the Municipal Council has no permanent office and is currently using a government school’s vacant land. The council plans to address the city's parking problems, as there are few designated parking spaces, leading to haphazard parking on broken roads. The council is working on finding land for proper parking to improve the city's infrastructure.
