Challans issued to four shopkeepers for using banned polythene bags

Rs 4,000 collected as fine from shopkeepers

A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) conducted raids at several shops in Jagadhri to stop the use of single-use plastic items.

The joint team recovered banned polythene bags from four shops and issued challans on the spot to all four shopkeepers and collected a fine of Rs 4,000 from them.

According to information, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, the authorities of MCYJ had formed separate teams for Zone-I and Zone-II of the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

Zone-I team has been formed under the leadership of Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjeet Singh and the team of Zone-II is led by Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt to stop the use of single-use-plastic items.

According to information, the joint team first reached Pansari Bazar of Jagadhri in Zone-I and recovered banned polythene bags from two shops there.

The team members issued a challan to the owners of these shops on the spot.

Later, the team reached near police post of Buria Chowk and recovered banned polythene bags from two shops and issued challans to the owners of these shops.

Sanitary Inspector Amit Kamboj said the team of the MCYJ collected a total fine of Rs 4,000 from those four shopkeepers and confiscated the recovered polythene.

He said from July 1, 2020, there was a complete ban on the use of 19 plastic items including polythene bags, plastic spoons, donas, glasses, ice cream sticks, plates, cups, forks, straws, trays, foil on sweet boxes, thermocol decorative items, PVC banners, ear-buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons and plastic flags.

“If anyone is found selling these banned items, action is taken against such persons by the MCYJ,” said Kamboj.
