Chautala family parties stay quiet in Sirsa
The once influential Chautala family parties, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Jananayak Janata Party (JJP), seem to be quiet in Sirsa's upcoming Municipal Elections. Both parties have nominated candidates for the chairperson’s post, but they haven't fielded candidates for the 32 ward seats. This leaves the election largely between the BJP and Independent candidates.
Despite the election campaigns, neither of the top leaders from the INLD or the JJP have actively campaigned or directly appealed for votes. Both parties did open their chairperson candidates' election offices on Saturday, but the absence of top leaders from these events suggests that the Chautala family is still recovering from the heavy defeat in the last Assembly elections.
At the inauguration of INLD candidate Omprakash Meghwal's office, party district president Kashmir Singh Karivala mentioned that the INLD was formed for public service and continueed to work towards the city’s development. He urged party workers to put in full effort to ensure their candidate’s victory.
INLD candidate Omprakash Meghwal also urged his supporters to connect with friends and contacts to not only support him but also help other candidates in different wards backed by the INLD.
Similarly, the JJP also opened the election office for their candidate, Praveen Kumar Turkiya (Lucky Chaudhary), for the chairperson role. Party members, including women’s teams, campaigned in various local areas like Anaj Mandi and Indrapuri Mohalla to promote Lucky Chaudhary's vision for the city’s development. The JJP leaders expressed that their party had always worked honestly for the welfare of the people.
On Friday evening, JJP national president Ajay Chautala held a meeting with his supporters, reminding them that the JJP followed the welfare policies of Chaudhary Devi Lal and these policies aimed at benefitting every citizen. He stated that all party workers should now use these policies to create a “small government” and speed up the city's development.
Although top leaders from both parties did not attend the inauguration ceremonies, local party leaders and workers were present to support their candidates.
In the last Assembly elections, JJP, led by Ajay Chautala (the son of the late former Chief Minister Omprakash Chautala), failed to win a single seat, and even key leaders like Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Chautala lost. the INLD, led by Abhay Chautala (Omprakash's younger son), won two seats of Dabwali and Rania, but suffered a big blow by losing the Ellenabad seat, which had been a stronghold of the family.
