Check posts to be set up on PGIMS campus to prevent entry of miscreants
Taking a serious note of complaints, the authorities of the PGIMS, Rohtak, have chalked out a plan to set up check posts at sensitive points to prevent the entry of anti-social elements and to check people from consuming liquor on the campus. They will also hold a meeting with the local police to strengthen the security arrangements on the premises.
“The main canteen and a parking lot near Ward-24 are the key areas where outsiders can be seen consuming liquor openly, especially at night. Interestingly, a police station is also located 100 meters away from the parking lot but no one takes any action against such people,” said Devender, a local activist.
He said empty bottles of liquor and beer had also been found many times in the parking lot. Once, a security guard was also deployed by the PGIMS authorities here to deal with such people, but to no avail.
“There is an acute need of intensifying patrolling in such areas to check the consumption of liquor which not only poses a serious threat to the security on the PGIMS premises but also deteriorates the peaceful atmosphere here,” Devender added.
Notably, a group of five youths consumed liquor and created a ruckus at the main canteen of the PGIMS for over an hour on Wednesday night. They played loud music in their car and danced in an uncouth way. On getting a complaint, the local police reached there and told them to go away.
Meanwhile, Dr SK Singhal, Director, PGIMS, said, "I have discussed the issue with security officials and have also planned to set up check posts at vulnerable points on the campus to restrict the entry of such elements,” he added.
Dr Singhal maintained that since the PGIMS campus was open from all sides, outsiders easily entered the campus. “The security guards have also been directed to intensify patrolling on the premises, especially at night, so as to discourage the entry of drunkards,” he added.
The Director informed that initially, a check post would be set up outside the Vishram Sadan on the premises to strengthen the security. “No one will be allowed to create nuisance in the PGIMS campus and strict action will be taken against those found consuming liquor here,” Dr Singhal added.
