Jind, February 10

A four-year-old child died after falling into an open manhole of a sewer line near Eklavya Stadium in Jind. The police have registered a case against an unknown person for causing death due to negligence under Section 304 of the IPC.

The deceased has been identified as Jaidev, son of Raju Ram, a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan, who lives in a slum area here.

The police said some children were playing with a ball when it fell in the open manhole. Jaidev was trying to recover the ball from the pit when he fell inside. Some children managed to take him out and he was rushed to a hospital.

Doctors there referred him to the PGIMS in Rohtak, where doctors told the family to admit him in a private hospital as his condition started deteriorating. The complainant said they again took the child to a private hospital where he was declared dead. The body was later taken for a post-mortem examination.

The police said they had registered a case of death due to negligence against an unknown person and started an investigation.
