Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh has appealed to citizens to vote in large numbers in the urban local body elections to be held on March 2.
Only those people will be able to exercise their voting rights whose name is included in the voter list of the Municipal Corporation or Municipal Council or Municipality concerned.
Singh said if the voters don’t have voter card, they can also vote by showing alternative identity cards.
Such voters can cast their vote by showing a passport, driving licence, PAN card, service identity card, photo identity card, SC, ST, OBC certificate with photo issued by the competent authority, physical disability certificate with photo issued by the competent authority, arms licence with photo, MGNREGA card, property documents with photo, pension documents like pension book, old age pension order, widow pension order with photo, health insurance scheme smart card with photo, ration card and Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI.
Singh said the voting for seven Municipal Corporations, four Municipal Councils and 21 Municipalities will be held on March 2. Also, voting for byelections for the post of Mayor in two Municipal Corporations, president in one Municipal Council, president in two municipalities and Ward Member in the wards of three Municipal Councils will also be held on March 2.
The State Election Commissioner said for the election of Mayor and ward members in seven Municipal Corporations (Faridabad, Gurugram, Manesar, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamunanagar), two separate Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be installed at each polling centre.
