Stepping up its property tax recovery drive, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued notices to 150 defaulters this month so far. The defaulters have been given 30 days to clear their dues, failing which property attachment proceedings will be initiated. Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Commissioner, KMC, on Thursday said, “All 150 defaulters own private or commercial properties with dues ranging from Rs 40,000 to Rs 10 lakh. Notices have been issued under Sections 87, 129 and 130 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. If the dues are not cleared within 30 days, the properties will be attached without delay,” he cautioned.

The KMC has issued notices in several city areas, including Moti Nagar, Jarnaili Colony, Sectors 8, 14, Dyal Singh Colony and Buta Singh Colony. “A total of 550 notices have been issued so far and most of the property owners have cleared their property tax after receiving the notices,” Singh maintained.

The Commissioner said property details of those who continue to ignore notices may be published in newspapers, on KMC’s social media handles and through public announcements (munadi).

He said the KMC has collected Rs 19.25 crore in property and fire tax in the 2025-26 financial year so far.
