Janata Adhikar Morcha, Sirsa, a civil rights organisation, has demanded the registration of an FIR under the SC/ST Act against a senior professor of Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa. The Morcha submitted a letter to the Sirsa Superintendent of Police on Monday, accusing the police of inaction despite a formal complaint being filed on May 14 by Dr Ravi, a part-time teacher (PTT) in the Department of Law.

In the letter, Morcha president Jaswinder Singh stated that Dr Ravi had accused the senior faculty member of caste-based harassment under the SC/ST Act, yet no FIR had been registered to date. He added that the delay reflected negligence by the police administration and warned that, if action was not taken soon, the Morcha would escalate the matter to higher authorities and may also launch a public protest.

Meanwhile, Dr Ravi has submitted supporting documents and evidence to the university’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). In a letter dated June 2, he informed the ICC that he had filed a complaint on May 14, 2025, alleging sexual, mental, economic and departmental harassment. He requested the committee to consider the evidence during the inquiry process and to ensure a fair hearing before taking any decision.

The complainant’s family also met with the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police on Monday to seek justice in the matter. Both senior officers assured them that appropriate action would be taken soon. The DSP informed them that he would prepare and submit a detailed report to the SP of Sirsa, based on which the police would decide the next steps in the investigation.
