Class X exams: Haryana board eases criteria for pass marks

Hisar, February 19
The Board of School Education Haryana, (BSEH), Bhiwani, has changed the criteria of pass marks in the matriculation examinations from this year, which has made it easier to pass the examinations. Now, students need an aggregate of 33 per cent marks, comprising internal assessment and theory marks, for passing the exam. Earlier, the students had to secure 33 per cent marks in each of the theory and internal assessment examinations. However, the criteria Class XII will remain the same where the student has to secure 33 per cent marks separately in both internal assessment and theory papers, respectively.
In yet another decision, which is a departure from earlier measures to check copying in the examinations, there will be no flying squads of the BSEH on duty to conduct surprise raids at the examination centres. Now, the board will deploy two observers — one from a private school and another from a government school at each examination centres — who will remain at the centres throughout the examination.
An education expert and retired District Education Officer, Devender Singh, said, “The examinations are conducted to assess the academic performance of the students, but such measures will bring laxity in them. Instead of making these changes, the Education Department should improve its teaching learning process and make infrastructure better for school education,” he said.
The BSEH spokesperson said 5,80,533 students would appear at 1,482 examination centers across the state in the secondary/senior secondary (regular/open school) starting February 27 and conclude on April 2. The board chairperson, Dr VP Yadav, said the admit cards of the students would be available on the board’s website www.bseh.org, on February 20.
The board Chairman said 3,03,869 candidates would appear in secondary class (matriculation) and 2,21,484 candidates of senior secondary class. Besides, 55,180 candidates will appear in the open school examination across the state.
He said all school heads would have to register their login ID of the school to download the admit card of their students. The board Chairman said the candidates should follow the guidelines given on the admit card and ensure that they reach the examination centre 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination. Use of electronic items like mobile phone, calculator, smart watch etc. will be prohibited at the examination centre.
He further said in case of any kind of difficulty, helpline number 01664-254309 issued on the board website, secondary branch’s e-mail assec@bseh.org.in, senior secondary branch’s e-mail assrs@bseh.org.in and adhos@bseh.org.in can be used to contact the board.
