Clean & green initiative: MC to develop new park on nine acres in Yamunanagar

The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) is taking several steps to provide a clean and green environment to residents of the twin cities.

The teams of the MCYJ are carrying out special cleanliness drives by cleaning all main roads, streets, lanes of residential areas and premises of all markets regularly.

The MCYJ is also carrying out a special drive to clean vacant plots as most of these have turned into heaps of garbage.

The owners of the vacant plots are being given instructions to construct boundary walls around their plots, so that people don’t throw garbage there.

Besides paying attention to cleanliness, the authorities of the MCYJ are also focusing on maintenance of parks in the twin cities. All parks are being well maintained by the MCYJ itself and through Resident Welfare Associations.

Taking the initiative forward, the MCYJ has now decided to develop a new park near Hamida Head in Yamunanagar, so that people of the area can take morning and evening walks and enjoy a healthy environment.

The MCYJ will develop this park on about nine acres at a cost of Rs 6.13 crore. Through the tender process, the MCYJ has allotted construction work of this park to an agency, which will start the construction work soon.

The park will be grand and beautiful and people will get a beautiful place to visit and breathe clean air. According to information, the park will feature about 2-km long walking track.There will be swings for children and a playground in the park.

Four huts will be constructed, so that people enjoy outdoors with their families.

The park will be lush green with flowers. In addition to drinking water, an open gym, high-mast lights, a guard room, two separate toilets for men and women will also be built.

Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad said their aim was to provide clean and green environment to the residents of the twin cities.

“The Municipal Corporation issued a tender for the park’s construction and the construction work has been allotted to an agency. The land has recently been marked and surveyed. The agency will soon begin construction work of the park,” said Mahabir Parsad.

Mayor Suman Bahamani said it would be a big and beautiful park in this area.

She said a wall of about five ft high would be built to prevent illegal encroachment from the side of Old Hamida Colony.

She said after filling the land with soil, the construction work of the park would be started.

“A beautiful and green park will be built on this land. It will have a 1.8-metre wide and 2-km long walking track. Landscaping will be done. Green grass will be planted in the entire park. Swings, playground and open gym will be made for children,” said the Mayor. According to information, four huts will be built in the park for people to sit with their families.

The park will also have beautiful lighting arrangements using high mast lights.

The Mayor further said due to this lighting arrangement, people would be able to walk and exercise in the park even at night and early morning.

“There will be a separate electrical room and guard room. Benches will be installed at various places in the park where senior citizens can sit and relax. Taps will be installed at various places for drinking water and irrigation,” said Bahamani.
