Clock ticking for farmers: Authorities ramp up portal registration efforts
With just 11 days left before the commencement of wheat procurement, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has ramped up efforts to register farmers on the Meri Fasal, Mera Byora (MFMB) portal. Registration on the portal is mandatory for farmers to sell their crops in government grain markets, but thousands remain unregistered.
Crop-wise registration breakdown
Wheat – 44.22 lakh acres
Mustard – 16.78 lakh acres
Gram – 26,429 acres
Barley – 19,368 acres
Sugarcane – 10,362 acres
(As of March 20, 3 pm)
To accelerate the process, the department has increased registration camps, launched door-to-door outreach programmes and is actively contacting farmers via phone calls. However, many farmers have yet to register their land, which could lead to delays and complications during procurement.
As of 3 pm on March 20, a total of 10,83,448 farmers have registered 62,80,694 acres of agricultural land on the MFMB portal. The crop-wise registration breakdown is wheat (44.22 lakh acres), mustard (16.78 lakh acres), gram (26,429 acres), barley (19,368 acres), sugarcane (10,362 acres) and other crops on the remaining land.
Among districts, Sirsa tops the chart with 7.54 lakh acres registered, followed by Hisar (5.74 lakh acres), Bhiwani (5.63 lakh acres), Fatehabad (4.17 lakh acres), Karnal (4.11 lakh acres) and Kaithal and Jind (3.66 lakh acres each).
For wheat alone, 44.22 lakh acres have been registered, with Sirsa (5.62 lakh acres), Hisar (4 lakh acres), Karnal (3.89 lakh acres) and Fatehabad (3.79 lakh acres) leading the way. The lowest wheat registrations are in Faridabad (32,503 acres) and Panchkula (26,400 acres).
Dr Wazir Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture (DDA), has urged farmers to complete their registration at the earliest.
"We have expedited our efforts to ensure that every eligible farmer registers their land and crops on the MFMB portal. Without registration, farmers will not be able to sell their produce in grain markets. Our teams are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns and organising registration camps to facilitate the process."
