Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's announcement to procure all crops on minimum support price (MSP) is being seen as an effort to woo the farmers ahead of the Assembly poll. He made the announcement while addressing people at Vijay Shankhnaad' Rally in Kurukshetra on Sunday.
“Since the BJP has been in a poll mode in view of the upcoming Assembly polls, such sort of announcement was quite expected to appease the farmers whose major section went against the saffron party in the recent Lok Sabha poll. How much the announcement remains effective in wooing the farmers, will be ascertained after the Assembly poll, but the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to perform well,” said Jitender Bhardwaj, a political analyst.
Inderjit Singh, a senior leader of the Haryana Samyukt Kisan Morcha and vice president of the All India Kisan Sabha, described the announcement as another ‘jumla’ of the BJP.
“It is an effort to grab the votes of farmers by misleading them, but they have now known real intention of the BJP, hence this exercise will also prove futile as not only farmers but also other sections of society have made up their mind to oust the BJP from power this time,” Singh added.
Meanwhile, Shamsher Kharak, the BJP state media co-incharge, claimed that CM Saini had won hearts of farmers by making such a big announcement.
“The announcement is historical. With it, Haryana has become the first state across the nation, where all crops will be procured at MSP. It will benefit lakhs of farmers in the state and they will not have to worry about getting good prices for their produce,” he added. Kharak claimed the announcement was like a slap on the faces of the Opposition leaders who termed the BJP as anti-farmer. “The BJP had worked for the welfare and betterment of the farmers in the past and will continue to do so in the future as well,” he added.
