CM announces big relief for flood-hit farmers in state

Giving a major relief to farmers affected by recent heavy rains and floods, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today announced several financial support measures, including deferment of electricity bill payments and postponement of crop loan recovery.

The CM said electricity bills for tubewell connections, which were due up to July 2025, can now be paid from January 2026 without any additional charges. “This decision will directly benefit 7.10 lakh farmers by easing their immediate financial burden,” Saini said while addressing a press conference here.

On crop loans, the CM announced that in villages where over 50% of crops were damaged and farmers suffered losses of 33% or more, recovery of kharif season loans taken from cooperative societies has been deferred. Such farmers will also be provided fresh crop loans for the upcoming rabi season, benefitting nearly 3 lakh farmers.

Saini also transferred Rs 4.72 crore directly into the bank accounts of 2,386 affected families. This included Rs 4.67 crore for 2,371 damaged houses, Rs 4.21 lakh for the loss of 13 animals, and Rs 10,000 each for damage to goods in two houses.

The CM informed that the e-Kshatipurti portal, kept open until September 15, had received registrations from 5.37 lakh farmers in 6,397 villages covering 31 lakh acres of crop land. Verification is underway and compensation of up to Rs 15,000 per acre will soon be released in flood-affected areas.

Meanwhile, Saini highlighted the enthusiastic response to the Deen Dayal Lado Lakshmi Yojana, saying 1,71,946 women had registered on the Lado Laxmi App within just six days of its launch on September 25.

The CM also released Rs 404.79 crore as the second instalment of the State Finance Commission’s grant to Panchayati Raj Institutions. The funds will be directly transferred to the accounts of 5,719 Gram Panchayats, 144 Panchayat Samitis and 3 Zila Parishads.
