CM calls for coordinated efforts to combat drugs, crime, child labour
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has called for strong coordination between Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to tackle pressing issues such as law and order, drug abuse, crime against women, child labour and illegal mining.
“DCs and SPs are the face of the government at the grassroots level and the people of Haryana have high expectations from them. All officers must work in close coordination to meet these expectations,” Saini said.
The CM was addressing a high-level meeting at Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban. Chief Secretary Dr Vivek Joshi, Chief Principal Secretary to the CM Rajesh Khullar, DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, Divisional Commissioners, ADGPs, IGPs, Police Commissioners, DCs, SPs and other senior officials were present.
As part of the Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Swabhiman Abhiyan, Saini began the meeting by reading the Preamble of the Constitution, highlighting its importance.
He emphasised breaking the drug supply chain and ensuring stringent inspections of de-addiction centres. “Any centre failing to meet standards will be shut down immediately,” he said. He directed DCs and SPs to hold monthly reviews of anti-drug efforts and launch awareness campaigns targeting youth.
The CM assessed the progress of three new criminal laws, aiming for their full implementation by March 31. “The primary objective of these new laws is to ensure transparent and timely justice. Innocents must not be wrongfully punished, while the guilty should face the harshest penalties,” he stated.
Saini instructed the installation of video conferencing facilities in all state courts for inmates and the use of e-summons and e-challans to streamline judicial processes. He urged DCs and SPs to conduct regular Vigilance Committee meetings at district and subdivision levels, tackle illegal mining and enforce child protection measures, including deploying child welfare officers at every police station.
Highlighting an ongoing cleanliness campaign, Saini asked officials to ensure its success, particularly in government offices. He also directed the adoption of e-office systems by March 2025 to enhance administrative efficiency.
Saini called for strict action against those defrauding people through chit funds and illegal immigration schemes. “We must ensure no one exploits the future of our youth by sending them abroad through illegal routes,” he asserted.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to women’s safety, the CM emphasised creating a secure environment while instilling fear among criminals. “The police force must instil a sense of fear among criminals to deter unlawful activities. There must be a clear message that the law is strict and firm against criminals,” he said.
He urged officials to increase conviction rates for serious crimes and ensure justice for every citizen, emphasising the need for DCs and SPs to stay overnight in villages to build trust and address issues first-hand.
