Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today said that agriculture was the backbone of the state, and the government was committed to empowering farmers and reforming the agriculture sector.

Expressing concerns over the declining groundwater table, the CM called upon the farmers to focus on water conservation, and also urged them to reduce dependency on chemical-based fertilisers and adopt natural farming.

As part of the nationwide Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Saini launched the state-level campaign from Kurukshetra. The objective of the campaign is to improve the agricultural sector by connecting farmers with new technologies, schemes, and innovations.

Addressing farmers at Kurukshetra University, the CM said, “The campaign will be a major step toward empowering farmers with knowledge, innovation, and technology. A developed, strong, and prosperous India is only possible when our farmers are self-reliant.”

He said Haryana was an agriculture-based state, but faced challenges, such as climate change, water scarcity, declining soil fertility, and changing market demands. “The campaign will act as a bridge from lab to land, bringing agricultural research directly to the farmers. Scientists, officers, and progressive farmers will work together to cover 1,380 villages and 109 blocks across the state,” he added.

Criticising the opposition parties, the CM said the Opposition should refrain from spreading rumours and misinformation as it caused loss to the farmers. “The Congress used to say that the Modi government will discontinue the MSP, but it has been increasing the MSP every year.”

Highlighting compensation and various farmer welfare policies introduced by the government, he said being the son of a farmer, he had worked in the fields and understood the struggles of the working class. He called upon farmers to switch from water-intensive crops to alternatives and adopt natural farming practices, which were essential for today’s environmental needs.

During the event, the CM released five magazines of the departments and launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan poster designed by ICAR.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana said the 15-day campaign aimed to boost crop production by providing farmers with land-related information, benefits of government schemes, and a platform for voicing their concerns.
