CM Saini pushes for timely completion of Ganaur horticulture market
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today visited the India International Horticulture Market (IIHM) site at Ganaur in Sonepat district to inspect progress and hold a review meeting with officials from the Marketing Board, district administration and the construction agency.
Saini directed officials to accelerate construction and ensure completion within the stipulated timeline, emphasising that the mega project would become a crucial hub providing national and international market access to farmers and producers across India.
“This ambitious project will offer a powerful platform for not just farmers in Haryana but also for producers of fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, poultry and dairy products from across the country,” the Chief Minister said. He said its strategic location on National Highway-44 and proximity to international airports gives it a strong logistical advantage.
The project was launched following the acquisition of 544 acres and 2 kanals at a cost of Rs 220 crore. The total estimated cost of the project stands at Rs 2,595 crore. So far, around 45% of construction has been completed, and Rs 689 crore has already been released, officials informed.
Saini informed that the market will have a total covered area of 50 lakh square feet and be capable of handling 20 lakh tonnes of produce annually. It will also include parking facilities for 14,907 cars and 3,305 trucks and trolleys, alongside 17 marketing and trading sheds and 13 modern buildings.
The Chief Minister instructed the steering committee to fast-track all works so that the benefits of the project reach farmers at the earliest. “The aim is to develop this as an ideal horticulture centre with world-class infrastructure that enhances farmers’ income and boosts agricultural exports,” Saini said.
He also reviewed the energy sustainability plan of the market and directed officials to incorporate robust solar power systems. Officials said 28 MW of solar energy has been proposed for the final phase. In response, Saini recommended further increasing the capacity to make the market energy self-sufficient.
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed prompt initiation of work on the rainywell system to ensure reliable water supply and called for urgent repair of the sewerage system, along with treatment and reuse of wastewater generated from the market.
Saini emphasised the need for the construction company to uphold both quality and timeliness in project execution. “This horticulture market will stand not only as a symbol of a modern agricultural marketing system but will also serve as a powerful engine to increase farmers’ incomes and strengthen the state’s agri economy,” he said.
