CM Saini's 'shaitaan' couplet courts controversy in Haryana Vidhan Sabha; Congress MLAs storm Well of the House
The Congress today targeted Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for a couplet — “Jiske Kirdar Par Shaitan Bhi Sharminda Hain, Woh Bhi Aaye Hain Naseehat Dene Humko (The one whose character even the devil is ashamed of has also come to give us advice)" — which he used in his reply on an adjournment motion on the collapse of law and order in the state.
Taking up the issue right after the question hour on the last day of the Monsoon Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today, the Congress demanded to know who the CM had referred to as "shaitan". The Opposition MLAs went into the well, raising the matter. For nearly half an hour, there were chaotic scenes as the treasury benches and the Opposition raised slogans and came into the Well.
Saini, however, giving a twist to the situation said, "Col. Shaitan Singh was an officer who protected our borders.”
The Congress, unwilling to accept this, demanded that the word be withdrawn. The discussion was so charged that minister Krishan Bedi refused to stop his attack on the Congress and sit down despite the CM being up on his feet to speak.
After multiple attempts to bring order and with the CM unwilling to relent, Speaker Harvinder Kalyan told MLAs on both sides to abstain from making an issue out of everything and added that he would look into the Congress demand and take a call on the withdrawal of objectionable words.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA and Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat made her maiden appearance in the Monsoon Session today.
