CM: Savitribai Phule's birth anniversary to be celebrated on Jan 3 every year
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the state government would officially commemorate the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule on January 3. Speaking at a social function in Bahadurgarh, Saini highlighted the government's commitment to promoting women’s education and empowerment, inspired by Phule’s legacy.
In a major announcement, the CM stated that Bahadurgarh, an industrial town, would be upgraded from a Municipal Council to a Corporation, provided it meets the required criteria. Additionally, he assured the public that the proposal to extend the Metro line from Bahadurgarh to Asaudha would be expedited.
Saini allocated Rs 5 crore exclusively for developmental projects in Bahadurgarh. He also announced the construction of Chhath Puja Ghats in Wards 7 and 10.
Highlighting Savitribai Phule’s contributions, Saini said: “Savitribai Phule is not just a name but a story of women’s empowerment and girls’ education. Her vision inspires Haryana's women empowerment initiatives. The Government Women’s College in Loharu, Bhiwani, has been renamed after Mata Savitribai Phule. The government is committed to educating and empowering women and continuous efforts are being made towards this goal.”
He described Phule as a forerunner of social reform and a champion for women’s rights, emphasising her pivotal role in establishing India’s first girls’ school in Pune in 1848.
Cooperation Minister Dr Arvind Sharma emphasised that contemporary efforts towards women’s empowerment are built on the foundation laid by reformers like Phule.
“The PM and the CM believe that empowering women is essential to strengthening not just Haryana, but the nation as a whole,” Sharma said.
Independent MLA Rajesh Joon presented a memorandum to the CM, addressing development concerns in Bahadurgarh.
BJP leader Om Prakash Dhankar and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra also addressed the gathering.
