CM to flag off anti-drug marathon, over 60,000 expected to participate
Sonepat is set to witness a display of community unity as over 60,000 participants are registered for the "Sonepat Half Marathon - A Run Against Drugs.” Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will inaugurate the marathon on Sunday morning. .
The district administration has planned the marathon route, centred at the DeenBandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal. Deputy Commissioner Dr Manoj Kumar Yadav conducted a review of the preparations on Saturday, ensuring the seamless execution of the event. His inspection encompassed route mapping, parking logistics for VIPs and officers, refreshment distribution and running kit allocation.
Dr Yadav has instructed the District Sports Officer (DSO) to deploy all available coaches to support the event. The marathon features three distinct categories: a 21-kilometre run, a 10-kilometre run and a five-kilometre run, catering to a wide range of participants.
The planned route will commence at DCRUST Murthal, winding through Murthal Road, Aggarsen Chowk, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Bahalgarh Road, Diwan Farm and the Vardhman Gardenia Residential Society near Sector 10, before culminating back at the university. Sonepat police are implementing stringent security measures along the route and have issued a detailed traffic advisory to ensure the event's smooth progression.
To minimise disruptions, the police will restrict general public movement on the marathon route from 4 am to 12 pm. The district administration will provide essential amenities, including drinking water, toilet facilities and medical aid stations, strategically positioned along the course. To elevate the participants' spirits, cultural programmes featuring renowned Haryanvi artists will be staged at various points along the route.
