ONE can spot Internet and power cables hanging dangerously over poles and trees in Narwana in almost all residential areas and markets. Such a cobweb of cables is not only a safety hazard, it also ruins the aesthetics of the area. The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) and other network providers should come up with a policy to install such cables in underground ducts. It’s time the authorities concerned took notice of the menace.

Waterlogging in railway under-bridges

Poor or faulty design of the Railway under-bridges (RUB) in the city is leading to waterlogging. The RUB near Old Faridabad junction of the NH is one such place where commuters get harassed due to flooding in the passage. Though it is claimed that a drainage system has been set up there, the problem of water accumulation persists, with no solution in sight. The stagnant water becomes a cesspool, leading to the breeding of mosquitoes and other insects.

Power cuts in Jagadhri trouble residents

RESIDENTS of Ansal Town, Sector 20, Jagadhri, have been suffering due to frequent power cuts. The reasons for these cuts are many — from cable damage to sparking due to faults in the earthing, non-tripping of the VCB or bursting of insulators — all of these would not occur if the cables were laid properly and quality material was used. Another reason for the frequent power cuts is that the 11KV line of the Ansal Town is connected to a rural feeder for Bilaspur village. An Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL) official had assured an official of the colony RWA in April that the area around the 11KV feeder would be cleared and a new feeder be sanctioned from the powerhouse in Sector 18, the cost for which would be borne by Ansal Town. However, no work has been initiated by Ansal Housing and Construction Limited (AHCL) in this direction so far. If the problem continues, it will become difficult for residents to continue living in this colony, deprived of facilities despite hefty maintenance charges. NK Dhiman, Jagadhri
