In Kaithal, the new collector rates are expected to increase by up to 20 per cent, impacting both residential and commercial properties. Karnal is also set to see a significant hike, particularly in high-demand localities.

In a letter addressed to all Divisional and Deputy Commissioners, the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Haryana, has instructed officials to address all public complaints and objections related to the draft collector rates by July 31 to facilitate timely enforcement.

According to officials, this revision is part of a state-wide exercise that was earlier postponed. The rates were initially scheduled to be implemented from April 1 this year. Following the department’s directive, officials in both districts are now working to upload the revised rates on the official websites of the respective district administrations. Property buyers and sellers have been advised to verify the updated rates with the offices of the Tehsildar or Naib Tehsildar before proceeding with any registrations.

Karnal Deputy Commissioner (DC) Uttam Singh has instructed Revenue Department officials to finalise the draft revised collector rates and upload them online to allow for public objections and suggestions.

“We held a meeting with all stakeholders, in which they were asked to prepare revised collector rates for the registration of immovable properties situated in their areas,” said Manish Kumar, District Revenue Officer (DRO), Karnal.

He added that the draft would soon be uploaded to the district administration’s website. Sources within the department revealed that collector rates on Karnal city’s Kunjpura Road, a prominent commercial zone, are expected to rise nearly fourfold. Currently, the collector rate stands at Rs 1.10 lakh per square yard and is anticipated to increase to around Rs 4 lakh per square yard. However, the sources added that some registrations have already occurred at rates as high as Rs 6 lakh per square yard.

Kaithal DC Preeti confirmed that the revision is being carried out as per state government directives. Kaithal DRO Chander Mohan, said, “We are expecting an increase of around 10 to 20 per cent in various areas. The revised collector rates are being prepared and will be uploaded on the website shortly.” Meanwhile, local property dealers and potential homebuyers have expressed concern over the impending hike.

“Property prices are already high, due to which very few buyers are coming forward. The government should not increase the collector rates,” said Raj Kumar, a local property dealer.
