A lecturer at Dr BR Ambedkar Government College in Dabwali, Sirsa district, has been accused of raping a female student.

The accused, a 35-year-old commerce lecturer, allegedly raped the student multiple times in a college classroom.

The victim, a final-year BA student, revealed that the lecturer befriended her under the pretext of helping with notes and later sexually assaulted her several times, continuing until February of this year.

According to the information available, both the accused and the victim are from the same village. The accused teacher works as a part-time lecturer at the college. Distressed by the abuse, the student confided in her mother, who then took her to the police.

A case was registered at the women’s police station based on the victim’s statement and a medical examination of the student was conducted.

The college administration was taken by surprise as no complaints were previously reported to the college’s sexual harassment cell or in the complaint box.

Dr Banta Singh Bhola, the acting principal, condemned the incident and emphasised that legal action would be taken according to the law.
