It affects others’ prospects

Due to this move, not only the next eight senior-most teachers have been deprived of promotion, but others have also lost two years of their tenure as future principals. Dr Amit Chaudhary, President, College Teachers’ Association

In an official statement issued today, association president Dr Amit Chaudhary said nearly two months ago, eight retired principals were re-appointed as principals of different government colleges for two years by the state government.

“Due to this move, not only the next eight senior-most teachers have been deprived of their promotion, but other teachers have also lost two years of their tenure as future principals,” he said. During the two years of the appointment of retired principals, many senior teachers would retire without getting promoted, thereby depriving them of their fair financial and service benefits, he added.

Dr Chaudhary said such regressive decisions of the state government affected the morale of the working teachers.

Association’s general secretary Dr Partibha said such orders deprived college teachers of their chance to get promoted as principal.

The association has appealed to the state government that the serving teachers should be promoted to the post of principal on the basis of their seniority.

Meanwhile, organisation secretary Dr Sunil Kumar said the matter of re-employment of retired principals had been challenged and stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

He alleged that certain politically influential persons were being re-appointed, while the serving teachers were subjected to injustice.
