Community liaison groups help in settling down petty disputes
Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Varun Singla on Sunday said the ‘Community Liaison Groups’(CLGs) constituted by the Police Department were helping in settling down small disputes amicably in the district.
During the first 10 days of January, a total of 53 complaints were given to the CLGs of which 41 were decided and the remaining 12 were under progress. Of 41 decided cases, the complainants in 25 complaints were satisfied while in the remaining 16 complaints, further action were initiated by the police.
A Kurukshetra police official said following the directions of the state government and the DGP, Haryana, CLGs comprising retired police officers and employees, retired assistant district attorneys and social workers were formed to mediate in disputes which could be solved amicably, instead of being tackled through police or courts. Different teams of the SLGs visited the complainants’ house and mad efforts to resolve complaints, including domestic and personal disputes, and land dispute-related cases.
Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said, “The purpose behind constituting CLGs is to encourage people settle their small disputes without entering into any litigation. The members involved in the CLG resolve mutual disputes of the general public. After receiving complaints, the police officials take appropriate action. Most of the complainants get satisfied with the action taken but in some cases the complainants remain dissatisfied and such complainants are handed over to the CLG team.”
“Members of the CLG teams go to the complainant's house to settle those cases which need not require an FIR but can be solved through a dialogue. Most of the complainants are found satisfied with the mediation from the CLG and it also saves time of officials and energy, capacity and the efficiency of the employees is being utilised properly. Similarly, with the help of the solution, while the trust of the public towards the police department is increasing, the work of the courts is also decreasing. We are hopeful that more petty disputes and conflicts would be settled in the coming days through dialogue and mutual understanding, he added.
