Traffic came to a standstill after a road caved in near Manohar Nagar Colony on the Basai road this morning. A labourer was also injured when he fell onto the road after his cart got stuck in a pothole.

Area residents reached the spot and put up barricades around the pothole by using pots and rope, but no official from the Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) or the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority GMDA visited the spot till evening.

Debu Verma, a local resident, said the road caved in around 3.30 am due to the collapse of the master sewer line. A deep pit was formed in the road due to the digging of soil, but even after informing the MCG officials, no action was taken. Due to the diversion created, traffic was congested throughout the day.

“Here, the roads get flooded after just a drizzle due to which people face trouble. The officials and contractors responsible do not bother to address the matter. We barricaded the road and would have to see when the road would get repaired,” said Syam Lal, a local resident.

Officials of the MCG and the GMDA could not be contacted despite several attempts.
