Karnal, July 15

The government offices, comprising SARAL Kendras, tehsils, and others, wore a deserted look across the state today as the state-level strike of junior programmers and data entry operators of the District Information Technology Society (DITS) brought essential services to a standstill.

They went on an indefinite strike under the banner of Haryana Computer Professionals Sangh and staged a dharna in Karnal. They handed over a memorandum to OSD to CM Sanjay Bathla to press for their demands.

The strike severely disrupted the works related to registration of vehicles and properties, issuance of driver’s licences and other public services, forcing residents to return home without getting their work done.

The protesting employees were demanding regularisation of their jobs, budgetary provision for DITS, which is an IT society, creation of new posts of employees, job security till the age of 58 years and equal work and equal pay to them. “We will not resume work until the state government accepts our demands,” said Vijay Kumar, president, Haryana Computer Professionals Sangh.
