Panic gripped residents of Tower J in Chintels Paradiso, a residential society in Sector 109 here, after a chunk of concrete fell of the balcony of a flat built on the fifth floor on Friday.

Following a structural audit conducted by IIT-Delhi, five towers — D, E, F, G and H — that had partially collapsed were declared unfit for habitation. Owing to structural deficiencies in the towers, residents were later ordered to vacate their flats.

Meanwhile, Towers A, B, and C were declared safe. The Tower J still awaits its audit report, which was submitted to the Gurugram Administration on Friday and would be released next week. The residents claimed that the builder had assured them of its safety.

Residents’ Welfare Association president Rakesh Hooda said the residents of Tower J were the worst hit as they had no idea regarding the official safety status of the building.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Hitesh Kumar Meena on Friday said they had received the report from IIT-Delhi and would announce the findings next week.
