The Department of Fine Arts, Kurukshetra University (KU), organised an “International conference on Contemporary Indian art and global art market” here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest of the inaugural session, Kurukshetra University Vice Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said, “There are myriad job avenues in the field of art by linking it with the contemporary perspective.”

Prof Sachdeva further said, “Fine art artists from Haryana should work to make Haryana’s folk art Sanjhi popular. This is the art of rangoli and painting in minutest detail. India’s rich cultural heritage and aspects of modern art are important components of the global art discourse.”

The keynote speaker, Prof Kavita Singh, Chairperson, Fine Arts Department, Punjabi University, Patiala, said, “Art needs to be presented as per the market demand. Indian artists, drawing inspiration from their traditional roots, are assimilating global trends and challenging established artistic norms through their works.”

Dr Gurcharan Singh, Chairperson, Fine Arts Department, elucidated the objective of the conference.

The conference was organised in a hybrid mode. Panel discussions were held during the conference which were moderated by artists, including Heena Bhatt, art expert Dr Ranjan Malik, Dr Anjali Dhuhan, Dr Shekhar Chandra Joshi, Dr Sonu Dwivedi and Dr Badar Jahan. Participants from India, Japan, Turkey, Russia and Sri Lanka among other countries attended the conference.
