Cong, AAP announce mayoral, councillor nominees for Panipat
Just a day before the last day of nomination, the Congress fielded Savta Garg, a Vaishya community face, as its mayoral candidate while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Pritampal Khera, a Punjabi face, from Panipat.
Both parties also fielded the councillors' candidates. Notably, Thursday is the last day of nomination for the upcoming polls. The polling in Panipat would be held on March 9. However, the Congress has not announced its mayoral candidate on Wednesday and all candidates held a meeting at the residence of senior party leader Varinder Kumar Shah, alias Bulle Shah, here.
Savita Garg (40) is the wife of Sanjay Garg, who is a cotton-waste businessman. Savita Garg has been associated with the Congress for a long time.
However, the names of the candidates for the councillors’ post have not been announced so far, but the Congress has finalised its’ councillor candidates from all wards and all have been asked to file their nomination tomorrow.
Congress leader Varinder Kumar Shah said the Congress had finalised its mayoral candidate and councillors’ candidates today and all would file their nomination tomorrow.
The Congress would contest the MC polls on the issue of corruption spread in the Municipal Corporation here. The BJP has even failed to provide basic facilities to the residents, he said.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Surender Ahlawat said Pritpal Khera, a prominent businessman of the city, would be AAP’s mayoral candidate. Three councillors’ candidates -- Amrit Kaur from Ward 26, Sunil Saini from Ward 9 and Vishvanath from Ward 23 would be councillor candidates.
Ahlawat further said a total 18 candidates for the councillors’ posts have been announced so far and rest of the candidates would be announced soon. The candidates would file their nomination on Thursday, he added.
