Cong candidate criticizes govt’s inaction on civic problems in Hisar

With the campaigning for the mayoral election in the Hisar Municipal Corporation picking up pace, the Congress candidate Krishan Singla claimed support from across the town and communities stating that he would strive to get the MC rid of corruption.

The Congress candidate in a statement stated, “We are receiving support from all communities, and our door-to-door campaigning is getting an overwhelming positive response. We are committed to ensuring the victory of all our candidates.”

The Congress got a shot in the arm with the party leader and former MLA Ram Niwas Ghorela joining the campaign on Monday. Ghorela expressed confidence in the party’s prospects stating that the Congress was in a strong position across the state and the candidates were set to win by a large majority. He also said that Krishan Singla had been chosen as the mayoral nominee.

Bajrang Garg, spokesperson for the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, criticised the BJP government's inefficiency in addressing the issue of corruption in the urban local bodies. “The public is being overcharged for services such as property IDs and house tax bills, all due to corruption. If the Congress wins, we will put an end to this,” Garg declared. He further said under a Congress-led Mayor, residents would no longer be forced to pay bribes for approval of building plans for homes or shops.

Garg also highlighted ongoing issues within the Municipal Corporation, where contractors must pay significant commissions to officials in exchange for securing work contracts. “In the current system, no work is done without paying money,” he alleged.

Furthermore, Garg lambasted the government's unfulfilled promises, particularly regarding the removal of stray cattle from the streets. “For the last 10 years, the government has claimed it would clear the streets of stray cows, but nothing has been done. There have been numerous accidents caused by these animals, resulting in lost lives,” he said.

He also took aim at the government's failure to address basic infrastructure issues, such as the clearing of blocked sewage lines. “This government hasn’t been able to lay new sewer lines or even carry out the repair work. What can you expect from a government that hasn’t even accomplished such basic tasks?” Garg questioned.
