Ellenabad bypoll: Cong invites applications from partymen by Oct 4

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Kumari Selja on Friday invited applications from party members who are interested in contesting from Ellenabad Assembly constituency in Sirsa.

They will have to submit their applications at the party office in Chandigarh by October 4.

The last date for filing nomination for the byelection is October 8. The seat fell vacant when INLD general secretary Abhay Chautala resigned over farm laws.

Haryana Congress organised a meeting at New Delhi to discuss the bypoll. HPCC president Kumari Selja, state in-charge Vivek Bansal, former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, general secretary Randeep Surjewala, Congress Working Committee’s special invitee and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda, Congress Working Committee’s special invitee and MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, former minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav, Congress national secretaries Virendra Singh Rathore and Ashish Dua and former Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma were present.

After the filing of applications by interested candidates, another meeting of Haryana Congress will be organised and the names will be discussed.

Vivek Bansal said that this Ellenabad byelection is historic. “This is not a fight of an individual. It’s a battle of ideology. This ideology is for the interests of farmers, workers, traders, youth and women. The BJP’s ideology is to benefit capitalists,” he alleged.

“Under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress is fighting the battle of every section from the street to Parliament,” he said.

He claimed that the INLD is the B team of BJP. “Both these parties have come together in the past and in the future also, they will come together and betray the people. So you need to be careful with these people.”
