Rohtak, August 26
State Congress chief whip and local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra is gearing up to corner the BJP in the upcoming Assembly polls over the issues pertaining to the supply of contaminated water, waterlogging, choked sewerage system and potholed roads.
The two-time MLA today released his ‘Sankalp Patra’ (election manifesto) while promising electors of the Rohtak Assembly segments to get rid of these issues if the Congress formed the government in the state.
In the ‘Sankalp Patra’, Batra, a close aide of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, has touched all those issues which are making them take rounds of government offices.
Even several protest demonstrations have been reported over the issues in the past five years.
“The BJP government has failed to provide clean potable water to Rohtak residents. Despite raising the issue before the Vidhan Sabha, complaints for the supply of contaminated water are coming from different localities, hence, my priority will be to ensure clean drinking water for the residents as this is the basic need,” said Batra while releasing his ‘Sankalp Patra’ on
Monday.
He said waterlogging and overflow of sewer lines were two other major problems being faced by the residents. Water accumulated on all roads and low-lying areas even after mild rain while it also led to the backflow of sewage.
“We will identify the reasons behind waterlogging and blockage of sewer lines to ensure permanent solution to the problems,” he added.
Batra said all internal roads in the city were in good shape during the previous Congress government led by Bhupinder Hooda but their condition began deteriorating after the BJP came to power.
Now, potholes had developed on main roads of the city as the BJP government and its representatives here did not pay any heed towards it. On coming to power, all roads would be made pothole-free to ensure smooth movement of traffic in markets and colonies, he claimed.
“A large number of people daily visit parks and sports stadium in the morning and evening but these do not have basic facilities hence we have planned to ensure overall development of parks and
stadiums with facilities of an open gym, synthetic track etc for the citizens,” said Batra.
He was bestowed with ‘Best Legislator Award of Haryana’ during first terms as MLA from 2009-14.
Batra said the city was facing acute shortage of parking spaces and the residents had to face inconvenience while parking their vehicles. He said if voted to power, he would take action from the first day to make Rohtak city free of traffic jams and facility of parking vehicles free of cost would be made available.
“Flaws in property IDs has also become a cause for concern. So we will formulate new policy after reviewing the existing property ID scheme of the BJP government so that common men does not have to make rounds of government offices to get these rectified,” the MLA added.
Batra said the security of women was his priority hence ultramodern high-resolution CCTV cameras would be installed in the city to prevent crime.
Police patrolling would also be intensified in the city to curb crime, he claimed.
