Cong raises issue of converting Eid-ul-Fitr to restricted holiday
Nuh Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed today raised the issue of state government converting Eid-ul-Fitr from a gazetted holiday to a restricted holiday.
The Haryana Government had on March 26 notified, “…Eid-ul-Fitr, i.e., March 31, 2025, shall be observed as a restricted holiday (Schedule-II) instead of a gazetted holiday, due to the fact that March 29 and 30 are weekend off days and March 31 being the closing day of the financial year 2024-2025.”
Gazetted holidays are observed as holidays across all government offices, and Eid-ul-Fitr was earlier included in the list of gazetted holidays issued for 2025 by the Haryana Government. Employees can choose any three holidays out of a list of restricted holidays.
During the ongoing budget session, Ahmed said, “The month of Ramzaan is going on. Eid-ul-Fitr is falling on March 31. There is just one festival. It is going to be celebrated across the country. The holiday is turned to restricted just because it is falling on the last day of financial year.”
CM Nayab Singh Saini said, “The matter was deliberated. These are the last days of the current financial year. March 29 is on Saturday, and March 30 is falling on Sunday. As several transactions have to take place, we turned it into a restricted holiday.”
Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda questioned, “Is it the last day of the financial year for only Haryana?”
Saini said, “I request you not to make it an issue. The decision has been taken as continuous holidays are falling.”
