A day after a scuffle broke out between Congress MLA and the husband of a BJP councillor, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Udai Bhan today condemned the incident and sought action against the people who misbehaved with the MLA.

A scuffle broke out between Congress MLA Ashok Arora and Narinder Sharma, husband of a BJP councillor, following a spat over the presence of unauthorised people in the meeting hall before the House meeting of the Thanesar Municipal Council on Friday.

Speaking to mediapersons in Kurukshetra, Congress leader Udai Bhan said, “Ashok Arora is a senior leader and a sitting MLA from Thanesar, yet some people belonging to the BJP, who were not even authorised to sit in the House meeting of the Municipal Council, misbehaved with him. The Congress has taken a serious view of this incident. Such incidents in a democracy are not acceptable.”

“A letter was issued by the executive officer of the Municipal Council that the relatives of elected women representatives may not be allowed to attend the meeting and still, unauthorised people were there in the meeting hall. The way they misbehaved with the MLA is condemnable. The Chief Minister belongs to Kurukshetra and he should take note of the situation and initiate strict action so that discipline is maintained,” he added.

Bhan said, “I have talked to the DC and SP over this issue. The Deputy Commissioner and the Executive Officer should register a case against such people for disturbing the meeting. The Congress will seek time from the Haryana Governor to discuss this matter. The party will chalk out a complete strategy and if no action is taken, the Congress will be forced to launch an agitation.”

Udai Bhan was accompanied by former MP Kailasho Saini, former Ladwa MLA Mewa Singh, former CPS Sultan Singh and several Congress leaders.

Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora said, “Only councillors are authorised to attend the meeting of the Municipal Council. It was not right for anyone else to come as their representative. The country runs according to the Constitution and not according to emotions.”
