As the MC elections approach in the state, the Congress party has intensified its preparations with AICC secretary and state affairs co-in-charge Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe boosting the morale of party leaders and workers. He exhorted the party leaders and workers to gear up for an electoral fight against the ruling BJP. The elections will be held on March 2 and results will be declared on March 12.

There are elections for the Mayor and councillors in Karnal Municipal Corporation, while for Chairpersons and councillors in Indri and Nilokheri MC and a byelection for Chairperson in Assandh MC. Like the BJP, the Congress has decided to contest the Municipal Corporation elections on the party symbol.

The Congress has invited applications from the ticket aspirants from Monday and some of the aspirants for the post of Mayor and councillors for 20 wards have applied.

“The party has decided to contest the Municipal Corporation elections on party symbols. The party will field candidates and will win,” said Gudadhe.

On the first day of submission of applications in Karnal, fewer than expected workers showed up to submit their nominations.

While interacting with mediapersons, Gudadhe said this was just the first day, and candidates still had two days to submit their applications. He urged the party workers to come forward and file their nominations. However, the low turnout highlighted lack of enthusiasm among the Congress workers.

Gudadhe, when asked about less enthusiasm due to continued defeat in Haryana, Maharashtra and now in Delhi Assembly elections, he said the victory and defeat were part of politics. “Some workers feel demotivated in the current scenario but the Congress workers have always contested on ground and will continue to do so,” he said.

Gudadhe emphasised that the Congress party was built not for power but for the service of the people and that the party would ensure its workers remained strong and motivated.

When asked about factionalism within the party, Gudadhe blamed the media for exaggerating internal issues. He said the media tended to highlight such matters, but the Congress workers contested the elections with coordination and unity. Taking a dig at the BJP, he said the Congress allowed everyone to have a voice, whereas in the BJP, only one person's voice mattered.
