In a bid to balance caste equations and infuse youth power in the upcoming assembly elections, the Congress has fielded two young leaders, Vardhan Yadav and Mohit Grover, from the Badshahpur and Gurugram assembly segments, respectively. Both candidates are expected to resonate with urban voters, who are predicted to play a pivotal role in the elections.

Mohit Grover, who recently joined the Congress, is a popular young leader who made a mark as an independent candidate in 2019. He is expected to help the party retain its strong hold on the Punjabi voter bank, which has been a key focus for the party in Gurugram.

“People today want somebody who not only understands the issues but also offers solutions. Urban voters are looking for a voice that somebody can provide, someone who understands what they want. The incumbent BJP and its leaders have left the city high and dry, but we have continued to serve the city despite not being in government,” said Mohit. “People will vote for development and against the prevailing civic crises. We are not making any tall promises, but we aim to make their day-to-day life better.”

Vardhan Yadav, who is with Haryana Youth Congress, is contesting against former BJP Minister Rao Narbir and is expected to tap into the Ahir votes, which are majority in the segment.

“People are voting for performance, not promises. They want someone who has driven on the same potholed roads, faced water and sanitation crises, and understands their daily struggles. In this assembly election, Gurugram is voting to change the city’s civic fortunes and will reject BJP, which has ruined the millennium city. The last 10 years have been a nightmare for voters, and the Congress offers them a chance at redemption,” Vardhan said.

Both candidates emphasised that the urban voters are looking for leaders who understand their issues and offer solutions. They promised to work towards making the daily lives of citizens better and providing development, rather than making tall promises.

The Congress is seeking a change in the civic fate of Gurugram, which has been plagued by civic crises and poor governance by the incumbent BJP government.
