Congress candidate Sumita Singh Virk from Karnal took a midnight scooter ride to highlight the city’s non-functional streetlights. This issue poses a serious safety risk to residents, especially women and children, Virk pointed out. “The lack of proper street lighting makes the city unsafe for residents, particularly women and children. The government has neglected this issue for far too long,” she said.

Virk also drew attention to the closed emergency gate at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), which is causing inconvenience to patients.

However, BJP candidate Jagmohan Anand criticised Virk’s move. “This is just a tactic to grab headlines. Our government has developed the city inclusively without discrimination. The chief minister, leaders, and workers have been among the people of Karnal for the past ten years. The Congress candidate was absent during Covid,” Anand said.
