Congress condemns Delhi blast, seeks toughest action against culprits

The Congress on Wednesday condemned the blast near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday, describing it as “an attack on the nation” and demanding the strictest punishment for those behind it.

Addressing mediapersons during the launch of the state-wide protest campaign “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod”, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda said the explosion was not just a terror strike but “an assault on India’s pride and sovereignty.”

“The Red Fort is the same historic site from where the Prime Minister of India addresses the nation. This blast is no less than an attack on the country,” Hooda said.

“The government should take the toughest possible action against those responsible. The roots of such terror networks must be traced and destroyed.”

Expressing disappointment over what he termed as the government’s indecisive approach, Hooda said: “It is unfortunate that the government has not taken decisive action yet. During the Pahalgam attack, our brave soldiers brought Pakistan to its knees, but a ceasefire was announced the very next day by US President Donald Trump. At that moment, when Pakistan was weak, the government stepped back from taking a final, decisive step. Perhaps if that action had been taken then, today’s incident would not have occurred.”

The Congress MP further questioned why terror attacks were recurring under the present regime and urged the Centre to act firmly. “The Congress stands with the government in every strong step taken against terrorism,” he said.

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narender Singh also condemned the blast and demanded a thorough probe.

“The truth must come out, and whoever is guilty must face strict punishment. The incident that claimed innocent lives is unfortunate. The Congress has always believed in maintaining law and order and opposes terrorism in any form,” he said.

Reacting to reports that some well-educated professionals’ names have surfaced in the case, he added: “Some details have appeared in the media, but the truth will emerge only after investigation. Regardless of one’s background — educated or uneducated — anyone tampering with the law must face consequences.”

The leaders reiterated that national security must remain above politics and urged the government to take decisive steps to eradicate terrorism from its roots.
