Chandigarh, April 12
Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala has demanded the state to convert self-finance courses, running in various universities and colleges, into budgeted ones.
He said for five years, the BJP didn’t take any decision on the recommendation of the University Review Committee. He said the committee in its report submitted on July 21, 2017, had stated over 70% students took admission in self-finance courses in the statein the past five years.
“On March 15, the the state directed to convert the self-financed courses into budgeted ones, the order was withdrawn by the Director, Higher Education, on April 8.” He said around 1 lakh students study in various self-financed courses, whose fee ranges from Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000. If these courses were changed to budgeted ones then the fees would decrease and benefit the students, he said. —
