The state Congress leadership will take a call on contesting civic elections on the party symbol at a meeting in Delhi on Thursday.

Haryana is going to the polls in March for eight municipal corporations, four municipal councils and 21 municipal committees.

A former CM, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today said that state party president Udai Bhan had called the meeting. “It will be subject to discussions whether the civic elections will be fought on the party symbol. This is because the party has been fighting the elections for the Mayor’s post on Congress symbol,” he said.

Apart from the Mayor, whether the elections for councillors or presidents of municipal councils and committees should be contested on the symbol would be taken.

Lambasting the state BJP government, Hooda claimed, “All promises made by the BJP government have proved to be illusory. Neither the 'guarantee' of giving Rs 2,100 per month to women has been fulfilled nor has the process of providing jobs to 2 lakh youth been initiated.”

He said even the jobs of Haryana Kaushal Rozgaar Nigam employees had not been made permanent. “Before the elections, the party had promised to give Rs 3,100 per quintal to paddy farmers. However, after the formation of government, it did not even give MSP to them. The government claims that it gives MSP on 24 crops, but the truth is that 24 different crops are not even cultivated in Haryana,” he said.
