Sirsa, August 27
Raj Kumar Sharma, a state Congress representative, has accused MLA Gopal Kanda and his brother Gobind Kanda of openly violating the election code of conduct and misleading voters. During a press conference at his office at Sirsa on Tuesday, Sharma alleged that the Kanda brothers engage in unethical practices in every election and then ignore the public for the next five years.
Notices issued to Kanda brothers
The Returning Officer and SDM Rajendra Kumar of the Sirsa Assembly constituency has issued notices to MLA Gopal Kanda and Gobind Kanda regarding complaints of violation of the Model Code of Conduct. They have been asked to respond to the notice within 24 hours.
He pointed out that under Section 123B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, it is clearly stated that no inducements can be offered to voters, and candidates are prohibited from carrying cash exceeding Rs 50,000 during elections. However, Sharma claimed that Gobind Kanda has blatantly violated these rules by carrying lakhs of rupees in cash under police and private security to distribute among voters. Sharma alleged that three days ago, Gobind Kanda gave Rs 9 lakh in cash to a sarpanch in Narain Khera , Rs 6 lakh in Shahpur Begu, Rs 50,000 in Chauburja and Rs 10 lakh in Chadiwal village.
Meanwhile, HLP leader Gopal Kanda’s brother and BJP leader Gobind Kanda has stated that they have not distributed any money. He claimed that the allegations made by the Congress leader are false.
