Congress lodges complaint with poll panel against Saini
The Congress has lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission regarding alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) against CM Nayab Singh Saini.
In the complaint addressed to the state Chief Election Officer of Haryana, Congress mayoral candidate from Rohtak Surajmal sought action against Saini. "I want to bring to your cognisance that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has violated the Model Code of Conduct. While addressing a nomination meeting of Mayor and municipal councillors at Rohtak on February 17, the Chief Minister had stated that the government would make the provision for grant of Rs 2,100 per head to the women of the state in the upcoming budget and implement the same from the coming year after the budget, which is a clear violation of the election rules and the MCC," he said in his complaint.
The Congress leader maintained that the CM's statement could adversely affect the fairness of the election process. "It is a serious matter as per the MCC and requires immediate action. I, therefore, request you to get a thorough probe conducted in this regard and take appropriate legal steps in order to maintain the impartiality of the election process," he said.
The complainant also attached a video link of the CM's speech with the complaint and urged the Election Commission to accord priority to the matter and take appropriate action.
