The court of Special Judge, Ambala, under the PMLA sent Sonepat MLA Surender Panwar to 14-day judicial custody on Thursday.
He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities. The Congress MLA was produced before the court after the completion of his extended custody. The ED had sought a two-day extension in his custody, however the court refused the further extension and sent him to judicial custody.
The ED in it is application submitted to the court, said the investigation was incomplete and a few aspects were yet to be covered in furtherance of which it was important to examine the accused further.
The central agency prayed that due to the ongoing investigation and summoning of other related persons by the directorate to take their statements on record, take investigation towards its logical conclusion and also to prevent any sort of tampering with the material evidences, it was in the interest of justice to extend the period of sustained interrogation of the accused. — TNS
