Congress reposes faith in Chatha, Phool Chand families in Kurukshetra, Ambala
Retaining its trust in the Chatha family, the Congress has fielded Mandeep Chatha, son of former minister and veteran Congress leader Harmohinder Singh Chatha, from the Pehowa Assembly segment of Kurukshetra.
A loyalist of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Mandeep Chatha filed his nomination on Thursday and said, “I am grateful to the party high command for trusting me. People are comparing the tenures of the BJP and the Congress. During the tenure of my father Harmohinder Singh Chatha in Pehowa, a number of development works were carried out, and even our critics can't deny this fact. The development has come to a standstill under the BJP’s rule. We have been making people aware of the wrong policies and decisions of the BJP government and I am confident that the people of Pehowa will support me.”
Mandeep had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections on the Congress ticket from Pehowa in 2014 and 2019. Banking upon his father’s works, Mandeep is testing his fate for the third time. On a lighter note, Mandeep said, “After contesting twice earlier, I am an experienced man now.”
In the Mullana Assembly segment of Ambala district, the party has kept its faith in Phool Chand Mullana’s family. The party has fielded Pooja Chaudhry, wife of sitting Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry and daughter-in-law of veteran Congress leader Phool Chand Mullana.
Varun had won the seat of Mullana in the previous Assembly elections but during the Lok Sabha elections, he was elected as the MP from Ambala constituency, following which the seat fell vacant.
Pooja, accompanied by Varun Chaudhry, filed her nomination today. While addressing a gathering, she said, “The people of Mullana Assembly have always supported us and I am confident that we will continue to get the support, love and affection even in this Assembly elections. We will win the Mullana seat and play a crucial role in the formation of the next Congress government in Haryana. We will get all pending works completed. For a better and bright future, we will work together.”
On this occasion, Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry said, “In 1972, our leader Phool Chand Mullana contested and won the elections from Mullana. For the last 52 years, he has been with the people of Mullana and worked hard for the development of this segment. The BJP government has failed and the time has come to oust this government.”
