Seasoned politicians

While Amit Sihag has been actively engaged with local voters and his popularity in the region is rooted in the development works carried out under him, in Kalanwali, Shishpal Keharwala is a seasoned politician with deep-rooted connections in the area, having won the last election in 2019. He is, however, expected to face a tough challenge from Rajinder Desujodha of the BJP

Both candidates, Amit Sihag from Dabwali and Shishpal Keharwala from Kalanwali, are expected to put up a strong fight against their competitors, drawing confidence from their performance in the past elections and the party’s recent successes.

Amit Sihag, the sitting MLA from Dabwali, has been fielded again. He is the son of former officer on special duty (OSD) to CM Dr KV Singh which, sources claim, solidifies his position within the party. In the previous Assembly elections, Sihag won by a significant margin of 15,647 votes against BJP’s Aditya Devi Lal. His popularity in the region is rooted in the development works carried out under him. During the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party had gained a sizable lead in Dabwali, strengthening his prospects for the upcoming polls.

Sihag has also been actively engaging with local voters and seeking the blessings of religious leaders, to boost his influence in the region. His recent visit to Shri Bala Ji Temple is seen as an effort to galvanise his supporters ahead of the elections.

Sihag is expected to face strong competition from his nephew, JJP leader Digvijay Chautala, and his cousin, Aditya Devi Lal. Aditya, who is reportedly unhappy with the BJP, is rumoured to contest the elections under the INLD-BSP alliance, which could intensify the competition in the constituency.

In Kalanwali, Shishpal Keharwala has been selected as the Congress candidate once again. Having won the last election in 2019, Keharwala is a seasoned politician with deep-rooted connections in the area. However, this time around, he is expected to face a tough challenge from Rajinder Desujodha, who is representing the BJP.

Meanwhile, Balkaur Singh’s entry into the Congress could prove beneficial to Keharwala, potentially boosting his prospects in the upcoming elections. This development may strengthen the party’s position in the constituency.

The Congress’ decision to stick to its incumbent candidates highlights the party’s trust in their leadership and past performance. The leadership believes that both Sihag and Keharwala have demonstrated commitment to their constituencies and are well-positioned to secure victory in the upcoming elections.

With the elections drawing near, the race for both Dabwali and Kalanwali promises to be a closely watched contest, as these seats are seen as crucial to the Congress’ strategy in the state.
