In a move to ramp up its campaign efforts on social media, the Haryana Congress has introduced a new anthem targeting the BJP. Released Thursday night on X, the two-minute video features a tune reminiscent of the popular ‘Jhooti khayi thee kasam nibhayi nahin’ from the film, Stree-2, but with fresh lyrics tailored to the current political climate.
The anthem is a direct critique of the BJP’s decade-long tenure, highlighting issues such as corruption, unemployment, the use of force against farmers and guest faculty, inadequate healthcare, and harassment of women wrestlers.
The music video features a montage of prominent BJP figures, including Chief Minister Nayab Saini and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, juxtaposed with footage of lathi-charge during various protests. The song’s core message accuses the BJP of failing to live up to its promises, claiming that the party’s so-called “Jhooti kasam” (false oaths) have led to widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate. It asserts that after 10 years of unfulfilled pledges, the public’s patience is running thin, and the BJP is increasingly seen as running away from accountability.
“The song sums up the mood of the political scenario in the state... you call it a spoof or parody or an anthem, ‘Jhooti khayi thee kasam nibhayi nahin’ conveys the critical message ahead of polls,” said Congress leader Chitra Sarwara, who is involved in making social media strategies of the party. Within 24 hours of its release, the video has already garnered over 21,000 views and over 300 reposts, indicating a strong initial reception.
In addition to the anthem, the Haryana Congress handle on X has been relentless in its media campaign. The party has been circulating video clips of BJP leaders expressing their frustration after being denied election tickets, and regularly updating the public on prominent BJP defections. Notably, one video features former BJP OBC cell chairman Karandev Kamboj criticising Chief Minister Nayab Saini as a “rubber stamp CM” and accusing the party of awarding tickets to “gaddar”.
