Congress national secretary Vineet Punia said the situation in the rural areas of Fatehabad has gone from bad to worse under the BJP government. Villages in Fatehabad Assembly segment were being neglected, he alleged.

Punia, who was on a tour to villages in Fatehabad Assembly constituency, said the civic infrastructure like potable water supply, drainage system and power supply were in a shambles. The state government and local representatives of the BJP never bothered to resolve issues of the rural areas, he alleged, while addressing a gathering at Mohammadpur Rohi village.

Punia alleged that the BJP MLA was discriminating certain villages when it came to development works. “Village roads have not been recarpeted. The problem of waterlogging is common. Frequent accidents occur on potholed roads. Dirty water stagnates for days’ as there is no proper drainage system. Villagers are living a miserable life,” he said.

The Congress leader alleged that if such was the condition of the BJP MLA’s ancestral village, the situation in other villages could well be imagined. He said it was evident that the MLA was not bothered about the issues that villagers were facing.

He alleged that the problem of frequent power cuts and shortage of drinking water in the rural areas had increased manifold during the summer season. Also, health services were in a bad shape, he alleged.

Punia said youth were struggling to get jobs. On top of it, the high inflation rate had broken the backbone of common people. He said development in the rural areas had been pushed back by many years. He said, “When the Congress government will come to power in the state, development works in villages will be carried out at full pace and that too without discrimination.”
