The Congress campaign in the Indri Assembly segment has taken an unexpected turn as its candidate, Rakesh Kamboj, has been hospitalised due to health issues. At present, he is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram.

Kamboj, who showed a strong display of support during the filing of his nomination papers on September 12, was hospitalised on September 13 after his health deteriorated.

Despite his absence, the campaign has gained momentum as Kamboj’s family members and senior party leaders have taken charge.

His elder brother, Rajesh Kamboj, daughter Apurva Kamboj, along with a team of party leaders, have launched an aggressive campaign to ensure that the party’s electoral efforts remain unaffected.

Key figures assisting in the campaign include former minister Bhim Sain Mehta and Karandev Kamboj, who recently left the BJP to join the Congress. Additionally, Divyanshu Budhiraja, who contested the last Lok Sabha elections against former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has also lent his support to energise the campaign.

“My father is admitted to the hospital due to some health issues. My uncle, party leaders, workers, and well-wishers of our family have intensified the campaign. My father will return soon to boost the campaign,” said Apurva, Kamboj’s daughter.

“We will ensure the victory of Rakesh Kamboj. I visited the area on Sunday and will continue to campaign in the Indri segment. Rakesh will win the seat with a huge margin,” said Karandev Kamboj, former minister.

Former minister Bhim Sain Mehta also expressed confidence, saying, “Even though Rakesh is hospitalised, we will ensure his absence is not felt in the campaign.”

He won the seat in 2005 and had contested the last Assembly election as an Independent candidate and faced defeat to BJP’s Ram Kumar Kashyap by 7,431 votes. Kamboj is once again up against Kashyap in a bid to reclaim the seat.
